Helicopter Landing

This was a one of the historic moments, July 21^st, 2002, that a rescue helicopter brought in a sick patient to Prince of Wales Hospital. The heavy throbbing sound of the engine attracted my attention and I was able to take out my camera to record this scene of landing.

This helicopter flew in from the Shing Mun River, over the small hill at Yuen Chau Kok, slowly descended and landed on the circular pit of ground in the centre of the grassy field before the hospital where an ambulance was waiting. The patient was carried by a stretcher aided by the air crews into the ambulance. The ambulance just turned round a short bend and reached the emergency ward in time of seconds.

This kind of emergency service stopped ever since SARS broke out in the hospital. Now that this grassy field together with the car park (originally three tennis courts) are closed down for building the New Prince of Wales Hospital, never will a rescue helicopter come again.
