Interesting Sights around Western Market

In the past, Western Market (上環街市) was a famous market selling vegetables, fish and all sorts of food. Its glory brought back a lot of old memories to our people of Hong Kong. A number of years before, it was turned into a commercial complex (西港城) with different kind of shops inside – a café, a Chinese restaurant (upstairs) serving traditional dim-sums, shops selling souvenirs for tourists, a shop selling bus models, stalls selling cloths upstairs and ……..

Let us see the sights around it this time:

(1) Beautiful signs of street names can be found here at the corner of 2 streets. It is really easy for tourists to locate where they are. Instead of railings, beautiful posts with chains are placed below the street signs.

(2) A road-side Electric Transformer box-shell is painted into a mini-Western Market.

(3) Artistic wall pictures can be seen here.

(4) A train stops very close to the Western Market. This used to be the terminus for some of the trains that took Western Market as their destinations.

(5) In the large photo, the structure before the Western market serves like our lungs. Do you know why? It is the outlet for exhale air that we breathe out into the Western District MTR Station below and the inlet of fresh air into the station.
