One day this January, before going up to the street level, we were definitely sure we came to the right place. The walls of the underground station at Clarke Quay showed the paintings of yachts, fishing boats and the low houses of the Singaporeans in the olden days.
These low houses were painted in bright colours which gave a fresh colourful complexion to this area. New tall buildings had been raised near by so that tourists might come here any time they liked. I supposed they would come at night to enjoy drinking or eating along the shores of this narrow and winding
