Eco-Pond (生態池)

I don’t know if the English term “Eco-Pond” is appropriate here or not. I need Mr. Felix Ching, a former Biology teacher at CCSC, to verify it for me.

I learned the establishment of this pond from Mr. Yuen, our principal on Thursday. Mr. Sing was so kind to accompany me to this pond to have a look.

This pond has replaced the original pavilion which most people at CCSC consider it a place for feeding mosquitoes. Mr. Yuen said that there would be no more mosquitoes once the Eco-Pond was there. Do you know why? It is expected that the fish inside will eat the larvae of the mosquitoes. Well, it depends on whether the fish inside are skilful or hungry or lucky or not.

What I observed was that there were many water plants that almost cover the whole pond.

I have some questions in my mind:

[1] How many different creatures were there inside the pond? Have they been carefully selected?
[2] Will the water be changed after a certain period of time?
[3] Will the water be stagnant or moving? No idea!
[4] Will the pond create smelly gases after the water plants or living creatures have died?
[5] Will the pond be cleaned up every year?
[6] Will there be a monthly report on how the eco-system is running at the pond?
[7] Who will be responsible for looking after the pond? Will they be the Biology teachers?
[8] What happens if heavy rain fills the entire pond and overflows it?
[9] Will the living creatures be displayed to the students at regular intervals of a year?

I felt a bit disappointed this Thursday because I could not see inside the pond because it was covered with plants leaving small surfaces that exposed to the air.
